Benefits of Women's Suits
The longevity of a women's suits
Sure, a Women's Suits might cost you more up front than one off the rack. Our prices for a 2 piece suit, for example, start around $1200, whereas we've seen suits in other ready to wear stores for around $300.But the big difference here is that a Watson Ellis Women's Suits will last you much much longer than the cheaper option. Our suits are handmade by expert tailors, rather than factory line made; and we use only the world's best fabrics. This heightened manufacturing / material quality will always show in the long run.
01
The sustainability of custom tailoring
A big concern of ours is that we're working within the bounds of sustainability. In fashion, that largely means not contributing toward the 'fast fashion' movement that adds so much waste and pollution to our already struggling plant, and instead contributing toward a 'slow fashion' movement.A Watson Ellis Women's Suits is yours, it's unique, made slowly, carefully, and with the upmost sense of personalized design. It's about quality, not quantity in clothing. Nothing is wasted, and everything is individualized. Every garment is made by a single tailor, not by a factory line manned by thousands of grossly underpaid workers.
02
Personalized designPersonalized design
Another benefit of opting for a Women's Suits is that everything about it is personalized to you. We are a proper bespoke company, and that means we can hone in on the most granular details and make them exactly how you want them. We're not squeezing your body into someone else's design template, with a few variables on the side. We offer you a blank canvas to create using the world's best materials and the expertise of our highly experienced designer. The end result will be a garment that reflects exactly what you want it to reflect. You won't have to just accept the design decisions someone else makes for you, like you would in choosing an off-the-rack suit.
03
The perfect fit of a women's suits
We had a female client say to us recently that she just couldn't believe how good it felt to put on her first ever custom made suit. She knew it would probably be good, but it turned out to be what she described as a game changer. That's because it was made specifically for her, fitted specifically to her frame. And there's nothing like the feeling of a suit that's fitted to your body. Everyone's body is truly different. That means nothing off-the-rack, created according to a generic sizing template, is going to fit you correctly. A Women's Suits will, and it'll feel awesome as well as making you look your absolute best.

Types of Women's Suits
Skirt suits
These suits typically consist of a matching skirt and jacket. The skirt can vary in shape, with options like straight or A-line, and can be knee-length or longer. Skirt suits offer a classic and elegant look.
Two-piece suits
These suits are composed of a jacket paired with separate pants or a skirt. Two-piece sets provide versatility as the individual pieces can be mixed and matched with other items in your wardrobe. This allows for endless outfit combinations.
Pantsuits
As the name suggests, pantsuits consist of a matching pair of pants and a jacket. They come in various styles and can be tailored to achieve a more formal appearance or designed to be more relaxed and casual. Pantsuits are a popular choice for those seeking comfort and a modern aesthetic.

Office settings
When you need to dress for success, go with a suit. Whether keynoting a conference, pitching your latest ad campaign, or interviewing for the promotion you've had your sights set on for years, a pantsuit will give you confidence to own the room.
Social settings
Suits walk the line between business attire and on-the-town outfit, making it easy to transition from work to play. Wear a suit to the office on Fridays, then swap out loafers for strappy heels and you're set for cocktails and dinner.
Evening galas
Beyoncé wore a custom pantsuit to the New York City Ballet's Fall Fashion Gala in support of her sister Solange's “Play Time” project. The Sergio Hudson pantsuit featured flare-leg trousers and a tailored blazer cinched at the waist. Let Queen Bey be the muse for your next formal look: try swapping out a full-length evening gown for a boundary-pushing suit.
Components of Women's Suits
Fabric
Much like men's suits, ladies suits can come in a vast array of fabrics and colours. The difference here is that women are given much more flexibility when it comes to how to wear a suit and the colours they can avail. There are also fewer components involved in a ladies suit making it an easy option for formal and business purposes. As a general rule, the more luxurious and formal female suits are made from wool which gives a form fitting style. Off the hanger, suits are also a good option for women and they tend to be much more accommodating in fit.
Cut
For ladies suits, there are also three types of cut each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Like men's suits, there are 'ready made' suits which are bought off the hanger and is universal in design and style. Sizing can be difficult as they are made to a set of standard sizes and do not offer the option of tailoring for a better fit. As the suits come in standard sizes the fabric can wrinkle and drape over time due to the lack of support to the fabric from the body's contours.
Jacket
Jackets tend to be single breasted and button up around the stomach area only, although buttoning up the jacket is entirely optional. During the 1970's and 1980's, the female suit became a symbol of power and independence. This is where the term 'power suit' was coined. During the 1980's shoulder pads were popular and gave women strong, raised shoulders. This fell out of fashion in the 1990's and is now not commonly seen.
Blouse
For the female suit, a blouse is normally worn. While a shirt can be selected most women tend to favour a blouse which is much softer in its design. The colour of the blouse can be any shade the woman desires and pastels are usually the shades of choice. Women do not usually wear neck ties with a suit, although in the past a silk scarf was fashioned in place of one creating an elegant and sophisticated look.
Skirt
For formal wear, a skirt is usually cut to hang around three inches below the knee and is loose cut to enable the legs to be crossed. For business wear, a pencil cut is favoured and is usually cut to be an inch or two below the knee. While skirts are the subject of this article, a trouser suit is also more than acceptable and can give women a flattering, confident look.
How to Choose Women's Suits
Understanding Different Suit Styles for Women
Women's work suits come in various styles, each with unique features. Pant suits are a popular choice for formal and business settings, providing comfort and a modern edge, while skirt suits exude feminine professionalism. Dress suits, featuring a coordinated dress and jacket, strike a balance between formal and fashionable, making them suitable for cocktail parties and social gatherings.
Determining the Right Fit for Your Body Type
Finding the perfect fit for your body type is essential to ensure comfort and a flattering look in your suit. For petite women, opt for slim-cut trousers and cropped jackets to elongate the legs and create a balanced silhouette. Curvy women, on the other hand, benefit from tailored jackets that nip in at the waist and A-line skirts or wide-leg pants to enhance their proportions, and tall women can embrace longer jacket lengths and straight-leg trousers. Regardless of your body type, make sure you select a suit with well-fitted shoulders and sleeves. Tailoring can work wonders in achieving a customised fit.
Exploring Fabrics, Colours, and Patterns
Women's suits come in a range of fabrics, colours, and patterns, allowing for endless styling options. Classic wool exudes a timeless elegance perfect for formal events and professional settings, while lightweight options like linen or cotton are ideal for summer and casual occasions. Versatile colours such as navy, black, and gray serve as wardrobe staples, with bolder hues like burgundy and emerald adding flair to special events. Subtle pinstripes and herringbone patterns convey sophistication, and floral or geometric prints showcase individuality and creativity.
First things first
Before you begin you will need a flexible / cloth measuring tape and a pen or some way of noting down your measurements. Wear a typical bra that you might wear with the garment, and if you have a jacket, shirt and trousers you know fit you well, you may want to have them handy as this can help you judge certain measurements. If you have a friend handy this can also help, but its not necessary.
Made to Measure for Her Pleasure
Once you are ready to start taking your measurements you should go through the list below. This is not an exhaustive list but it usually gives us all we need, whilst still being simple to do yourself. You should follow the instructions below as illustrated, using a relaxed but firm hand, you should never pull the tape measure tight. Perform each measurement three times to ensure accuracy and round all final measurements up the nearest half inch. First record your height (in metres) and weight (in kg), this can help with overall sizing.
Bust / Chest
Wearing a typical bra for you (or the bra you intend to wear if its specific), measure the circumference of your bust at its fullest point. Do not pull the tape measure tight and try to relax your arms by your sides. The value should basically be your bra size (i.e 36DD) but always measure never assume.
Under Bust
Again, whilst wearing a properly fitted bra, measure the circumference of your chest, directly underneath your breasts. Ensure the tape measure is level and not twisted. The value should be the band size of your bra if it were properly fit.
Shoulder Seam to Bust
Measure from the where the shoulder seam would sit on a well fitted shirt/jacket, down to the fullest part of the breast. The position along the shoulder seam will vary depending on the individuals bust and the bra, which is why it is important to wear a properly fitted/typical bra for you. Ensure the tape measure is straight and not at an angle.
Neck / Collar
Measure the circumference of your neck at the height where your collar would sit. If you wish to be sure you of the height you can wear a shirt that fits you well.
Bicep
Flex your arm to 90 degrees to find the widest point of your bicep then relax your arm and measure the circumference of at its widest point.
How to Maintain Women's Suits
Most garments tend to follow a typical cleaning process; wash it, wear it, repeat. After a week of wearing your suit around the office, your first inclination might be to take it to get dry-cleaned. However, as counter-intuitive as it sounds, to properly clean a suit, trips to the dry cleaners should be kept at a minimum.
A good quality steamer is not cheap, but it is a worthwhile investment if you want to keep a suit looking clean and fresh. Steaming your suit after every wear helps remove wrinkles and odors without damaging your suit’s natural fibers. Over the long run, a high-quality steamer can reduce the number of trips to the dry cleaner making your suit last longer. Our advice is to try and steam your suit after every wear. Although it might be an extra step in your routine, taking the time to properly steam your garments yourself can save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
The best way to keep a suit looking new and clean is to steam it. If you were to use a hot iron directly on your suit, you risk permanently damaging the natural fibers that make up your garment. Using high heat can also cause your suit’s outer material to produce a sheen making it look distorted. Our advice is to avoid ironing altogether unless in a dire situation.
When your suit is not being worn, it should always be hung up. When hanging up your suit, you should never put it on a flimsy metal hanger. Instead, hang your suit on a sturdy natural wooden hanger.Hanging your suits on a sturdy wooden hanger will support the shoulder construction and help maintain the shape of your jacket until its next use. The right hanger should be shaped to fit the drape of your jacket as well as be wide enough to touch each edge of its shoulders. Giving the proper support to your jackets is something only a wooden hanger can do.
