Process of Women's Underwear

Knitting

The first step in our manufacturing process is knitting. This is where reels of organic cotton are turned into the fabric that will soon become our underwear. Huge circular machines take the cotton threads from the reels and use a series of needles to turn them into fabric.

Quality checked

This new fabric then needs to be quality checked. It's unrolled over a giant light box to allow the team to check for imperfections.

Dyed

To achieve that perfect underwear shade, the fabric is then dyed. All the dyes used by our manufacturer are low impact, fibre reactive and GOTS certified, meaning that they're much better for workers, the planet and ultimately our customers.

Patterns

Good design is the basis of any loved garment, and this is where our unique patterns come in. After being photographed and digitised, special software is used to fit our patterns onto the fabric efficiently in order to minimise fabric wastage. Once they're digitally arranged, they can be easily printed and laid on top of the fabric.

Cutting

These blocks of fabric are 100 layers thick! The patterns are arranged on top, and an operator uses a machine to cut around the shapes. The block of fabric is 100 layers thick! Any offcuts are carefully collected and sent to be recycled.

Stitched

All these separate pieces are then stitched together…and our underwear begins to take shape. Individual garment workers sew seams together, along with other elements like elastic. It's a bit like completing a puzzle.

How to Maintain Women's Underwear

Hand wash is preferable
The best for your underwear is to wash it by hand and not in a machine as this tears the materials and can effect the fitting negatively. Wash your undergarments by hand to prolong their lifetime. Clean them with a mild washing detergent, rinse properly and hang up to dry. If you want to wash bras and briefs in the machine the least damaging way to do so is in 40 degrees and using a mild detergent. Coloured underwear should always be washed with a detergent for colours. For white garments you can use a detergent with optical brighteners, as it restores the whiteness. Never use detergent with bleach included, not even for white garments. Always follow the washing instructions. You should also avoid softener as for example sport bras include certain fabrics that can be harmed by this (thin and soft, breathable fibres). The great risk is that the pores in the fibres will be clogged by the softener and the breathable properties are lost.

Use a washing bag
If you choose to wash your underwear in a machine we recommend you use a washing bag if it's an underwire bra. Otherwise there is a risk the wire in the bra destroys the machine.

Don't mix
Don't mix tights with white synthetic underwear. All tights contain dye and will release some of it during washing, which white underwear can easily absorb. Underwear should always be washed separately.

Have your dryer on low heat
It is best to hang your underwear up to dry. If you prefer to use a tumble dryer, do so on low heat. Otherwise you risk damaging the garment's elastics. Always check the washing instructions first to see if you can use a dryer at all.
